This week is chock FULL of fun things to see, do & try! First, we have to celebrate our Valentines and the area has a LOT of ways to cover that! From date-night fun, to Valentine's Parent's Night Out to cover your date-night fun, there is literally something for EVERYONE! Our resource guide Valentine's Day Fun and Parent's Night Outs! will cover it ALL!
Then, it's Mardi Gras season and that means parades and floats and FUN!
By now, you've probably already found & gathered ALL of your parade-day gear and have it sitting by the door or out in the garage waiting for the big day. NO?!? Well let's get down to business, shall we?
You're gonna need a few things:
Wagon, stroller or dolly with bungee cords (depending upon what all you need to haul around, this WORKS)
Kid containment: Ladders if you're adventurous, Pack-n-Plays or Collapsible Play Pens (the ones that fold accordion style like in my pic above.)
Bags: I like to use cloth grocery bags or wire mesh pop-up laundry baskets that fold up tiny for portability
Snacks & Drinks (hand sanitizer or wipies)
Toilet Paper (yep don't trust the port-a-potty's to stay stocked especially if tailgating along the river front)
These are just a few of the basics- you may need a wagon to haul the kids &/or supplies. You may be able to get away with just using the stroller, but do take it if you can!
It's easier for afterwards when it's dark and everyone is trying to go home. Flashlights are always helpful, and don't forget the battery pack and chargers for your phone!
Plan your parade day before you go. Will you be leaving early to grab a spot along the river in the kids area?
Be prepared to spend they entire day down there and take something fun for the littles to do. We've taken our collapsible scooters and even roller skates in years past.
Some go so far as to bring bikes. Camping chairs and a picnic blanket are great to have on hand if you can keep your car with you and just tailgate (possible along the river part of the route)
Bring cash for the roving vendors, your kids will want SOMETHING from the carts that pass by, even if it's just a box of snaps to pop or an inflatable sword.
Heck, you can even score a stupendous Carnival hate off one of the carts if you're lucky!
Now that you've got your basics and a game plan, let's take a look at the main fun things to do this weekend.
There is SOO much to do, I've had to devote an entire separate article for Valentine's Day Fun and Parent's Night Outs!
If you catch the parade early on the river front, it is conceivable that you may be able to make it out in time to enjoy Owl Night! Coordination and planning is key!
There is a LOT going on this weekend AND Caddo is out on winter break, so make sure you plan for those 3 days they have off next week, too!
I'll include some of the area winter break camps just in case you need a spot!
