Pelican Pediatric Therapy serves children with autism and related disorders in the Shreveport - Bossier community.
We have a love for these children that drive us to give everything we have to help them succeed.
Pelican Pediatric Therapy understands that every child is different and develops on their own time and in their own way.
We take the time to get to know your child and the people involved in their lives so that we can meet them where they are and help them to grow.
Each child is evaluated and given an individualized treatment plan based on their unique needs.
From there, we work with the family to ensure that the child’s needs are getting met across all environments.
Social Skills Group
Pelican Pediatric Therapy is now offering a Social Skills Group! This new group aims to help kids develop social skills that they can use in nearly any setting they are presented with. Skills such as good sportsmanship, introductions, taking turns, and many other skills listed in the curriculum will be very beneficial in proper development of children and also have the ability to generalize across many different settings, events, and people.
Toddler Talk Sessions
Your toddler will enjoy FUN Friday morning sessions that include stories, songs, crafts, snacks, and most importantly, PLAY!
Each session is led by our speech-language pathologist and a preschool teacher with activities that encourage language building and social development.
Toddler Talk is a great opportunity for your child to build language skills, play skills and social skills especially if they are not currently attending Daycare, a Mother's Day Out program or preschool.
In addition to these benefits, a Pelican Pediatric Therapy SLP will provide parents with information regarding milestones and ideas on how to encourage language at home.
Speech Therapy
Our speech and language therapy services provide comprehensive assessment and treatment plans for individuals who struggle in a variety of areas of communication.
These areas include the following: language, articulation, motor speech, fluency, cognitive development and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Language Therapy
Language therapy focuses on both receptive language (what a child understands) and expressive language (what a child expresses with words/gestures/pictures) along with pre-language skills, pre-literacy skills and social language. Language therapy is beneficial for children who have difficulty following directions, for children who have trouble asking and answering questions, for children who are not meeting developmental milestones, and for children who have difficulty interacting with their peers. AAC is a great tool to enhance communication for children who are learning to verbalize, who have difficulty verbalizing, or who are nonverbal.
Articulation therapy, motor speech
Speech therapy targets the intelligibility (ability to be understood) of a child through focusing on improving productions of sounds and targeting motor coordination. Therapy for these areas of speech is helpful to improve speech understanding and to decrease frustration in children.
Fluency therapy
Fluency therapy is available for individuals who stutter by treating disfluencies through identification of situations/feelings toward stuttering and identifying the types of disfluencies produced by the child. A treatment plan is developed to teach and practice speech strategies and modifications and also to build confidence in the child.
Our goal is to enhance your child’s strengths, improve his/her weak areas, and build confidence in his or her communication through providing a comprehensive evaluation, evidence-based treatment and parent support!
ABA Therapy - Applied Behavior Analysis
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is an approach that uses learning and motivation to teach functional skills, improve social interactions, and reduce challenging behaviors in children with autism.
Behavior analyst believe that behaviors are learned through consequences. Those consequences help us predict whether or not a behavior will occur again in the future.
Using evidence based procedures, we assess your child's skills and determine the functions of their behaviors.
From there we work together with the parent to develop an intervention plan to teach new skills that are essential to functional living, to reduce challenging behaviors such as tantrums, and teach alternative behaviors that are appropriate.
ABA is not a clinic only setting. We go where the behavior occurs (home, playground, store, etc) so that we can teach them how to function in their natural environment.
Parent participation is vital to the child's progress. Parent training allows parents to learn the skills we use to help their child succeed.
ABA has been demonstrated to be effective in several areas including: verbal behavior, social skills, adaptive skills, academic performance, reducing challenging behaviors, and increasing appropriate behaviors.
Business Review
"If your child is in need of speech therapy I can’t recommend Sara Kate enough. Our son started seeing her when he was three and she was ticket to him finding his voice. Finally hearing Nolan talk and express himself was the greatest gift I’ve ever received. Nolan is now seven years old and was recently diagnosed with autism. It was suggested that we seek pragmatic speech therapy and I called Sara Kate right away. His social speech has blossomed. He’s making eye contact and asking follow up questions with friends and family. I am just blown away by his progress. I’ll never be able to put into words what this amazing woman has done for my baby. I’m forever grateful."

"Both of my kids have seen Ms. Sara Kate for speech therapy, and I cannot recommend her enough! She is so sweet, kind, and extremely patient. She genuinely cares about each of her patients and has an immense passion for what she does. Sara Kate always made each session fun and interesting, while still being educational and working toward my kids’ speech goals. The amount of progress my children made in a short amount of time truly amazed me. Sara Kate’s experience and dedication made a huge difference in my children’s lives, and I am so thankful for that! She will always hold a special place in our hearts! Thank you, Ms. Sara Kate!"
