Centenary Book Bazaar Is BACK This Friday & Saturday!

By Mimi Rankin Webb, Macaroni KID Shreveport Bossier publisher & Shreveport Bossier Mom In the Know September 7, 2023

It's time for one of the area's most LOVED events, The 36th Centenary Book Bazaar!

Doors will open Friday, September 8, at the College’s Fitness Center and continues Saturday, September 9.

Over 80,000 items will be available for purchase on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The 2023 Book Bazaar will offer over 50 categories of paperback books, hardback books, DVDs, CDs, LP records, and puzzles.

One section is devoted entirely to books found on local middle and high school reading lists, with required reading titles ranging in price from .25 cents to $1.25.

Most of the books will be priced between $1 & $3, but a few will be slightly more and I did see some boxed sets in the mix as well that will be available.

I helped unpack and organize some of the books this afternoon, and saw everything from prized Revel Cookbooks from years past to sheet music and gardening books.

One table was devoted solely to ALL things war such as Vietnam, WWI & II and there were even compendiums of military uniforms over the years, aircrafts and other vehicles, too!

You can unearth ALL SORTS of treasures in there, no joke! (There actually were joke books in the mix, too!)

“The Book Bazaar is one of Centenary’s signature community events,” said Vice President for Development, Fred Landry. “We are so thankful to the Muses for their dedication to the College in planning and hosting this fundraiser for the past thirty-six years to benefit our students, professors, and programs.”

The Book Bazaar is organized and sponsored by the Centenary Muses, a volunteer group dedicated to funding projects and programs for Centenary students.

The Bazaar has raised more than $1 million for the College, and the Muses have funded projects that touch all aspects of student life, from academics and athletics to student government and the performing arts.

Patrons should bring bags or boxes to carry out their books. Carryout assistance will be available. Cash or check is accepted with an ATM available on site if you should need it.

On Saturday, all items are half-price after 1:00 p.m. and the coolest part about this sale? It's ALL newly donated books that have been donated over the past year and NOT leftovers from the last sale!
