Developing Healthy Sleep Habits in Children

Falling asleep independently and sleeping through the night is a skill, and children need time and guidance to develop good sleep habits.

Common sleep challenges families encounter include early wake times, bedtime battles, nap schedules, nighttime waking, nap transitions, bed changes, and schedules for multiples.

If you are ready for a clear, easy to follow, individualized plan that will teach your child the skills necessary to happily sleep through the night and take long, restful naps, then Bayou Slumber Sleep Consulting is here to help you get started.

Meet Margaret Guccione, fellow mom, sleep specialist and owner of Bayou Slumber Sleep Consulting. She is here to help us ALL get a good night's sleep!

Margaret is passionate about babies, their families, and loves to help everyone get a good night’s sleep.

She truly believes sleep and rest for the whole family is essential to a healthy life.

Through her professional experience as a physical therapist and personal experience as a mom, Margaret combines her knowledge of development and caring support for families to help create a step by step personalized method for your child.

She will work with you to gently help teach your child to independently fall asleep, and stay asleep, the whole night through.

Margaret can provide the tools, techniques and support parents need to teach their baby to sleep on their own through the night.

She is here to help parents find a routine that works for their family and help solve even the toughest of bedtime challenges.

When you work with Bayou Slumber Sleep Consulting, you get more than just sleep training basics, you gain a friend in Margaret who will be there to help and encourage you as you navigate the road to teaching healthy sleep habits.

Why Work with a Sleep Consultant?

A professional sleep consultant has the experience and training to identify problems related to your child’s sleep and work with you to develop a personalized plan that addresses the individual issues.

They also can provide some much-needed support when things don’t seem to be working and give you encouragement to follow through on that plan until it does work.

So, when it comes to baby’s sleep, everyone hopes to find success on their own with as few problems as possible.

But if that does not happen for you, Bayou Slumber Sleep Consulting can help provide the answers and support you need.

The Sleep Sense Philosophy

The Sleep Sense™ Method was created out of a strong belief that healthy sleep habits make for healthy children.

A well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful, and eager to learn.

While most books and programs dealing with child sleep issues can be based largely around the issue of “crying it out”, Bayou Slumber Sleep Consulting believes that every child is unique and every child’s sleep habits and patterns are different.

That’s why the Sleep Sense™ Method places so much emphasis on a customized plan and accommodates different parenting styles.

The bottom line is that you, as a parent, need to be comfortable with your new sleep plan in order for it to work for your child.

The Bayou Slumber Sleep Consulting approach to improving your child’s sleep is pretty simple:
  • Honest information about WHY sleep is so important for your child’s well-being. (This will give you all the motivation you need to make changes to your child’s sleep habits.)
  • An easy-to-follow, step-by-step plan that lets you make some choices about what is the right approach for your child. (All children are different, and nobody knows your child better than you do. Bayou Slumber Sleep Consulting works with you to create a customized sleep plan tailored to your child and family situation.)
  • Learn how to measure success. (No, you shouldn’t expect your child to sleep 12 uninterrupted hours on the first night — although it does happen! Learn what to expect along the way.)

Expecting Parents or Newborn Boot Camp

This option offers a 45-minute phone consultation to cover ALL your questions regarding sleep, schedules, soothing and growth spurts.

Also included is Margaret's expert advice for thriving in the first few months of life with your newborn as well as how to lay the groundwork for self-soothing and sleeping through the night when they are old enough.

You will receive a newborn sleep guide which will include techniques for establishing a foundation for healthy sleep including age-appropriate sleep needs and schedules, sleep environment advice along with information on common sleep issues that can be easily avoided.

An option to add on 2 weeks email access to answer questions as they arise within 30 days of phone consult is available with this package, too.

Newborn Package: (0-12 weeks)

Whether you just found out you were expecting, are anticipating the arrival any day now, or have a newborn already in your home, this plan is for you.

Being proactive can help your little one develop healthy sleep habits from the start of life.

We are not going to do sleep training with your newborn as they are too little and need to eat frequently.

This is why you’ll be getting a Healthy Sleep Plan, not a Sleep Training Plan.

What we can do together is help set your baby up for success in learning how to fall asleep and stay asleep as he or she grows older.

It is definitely possible to lay a foundation for healthy sleep habits from the beginning of a baby’s life.

This package helps parents get through the first 12 weeks of life with your new baby and helps you teach your little one how to sleep well and prevent sleep challenges in the future.

Infant Package (13 weeks-18 months)

Sleep is a learned skill, and teaching your baby to sleep well can improve life in numerous ways and enhance the development of your child.

Infant sleep problems can have a noticeable effect on your child’s temperament and attitude which can affect the entire family.

When you choose to pursue a sleep plan, you can expect an easy to follow, customizable plan that will allow your little one to get all of the restorative sleep for both naps and overnight that he or she needs.

This will help your child have a more positive temperament along with enhancing proper development.

Toddler and beyond (19 months and up)

It is never too late to teach a child independent sleep skills to get the rest that they need.

If your child is over 2 years old, sleep challenges are very different than that of an infant and are typically a little more complicated.

Helping your child build healthy sleep habits can better their physical and mental well-being for life.

If you are ready for a clear, easy to follow plan that will teach your child the skills necessary to happily sleep through the night and take long, restful naps during the day then it’s time to set up a sleep plan.
