Bossier Parish Libraries has a summer full of events

By Andrea Gilmer, Bossier Parish Library April 27, 2019

As many of you are probably aware, this year is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, as well as NASA’s 60th anniversary, and we’re celebrating at the library! The first crewed moon landing was the Apollo 11 mission, which landed on the moon on July 20, 1969. The crew consisted of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Since this first landing, there have been five more manned landings from 1969 to 1972; in total there have been about 21 moon landings, manned and unmanned, conducted by several countries. The most recent being China’s Chang’e 4 which made the first landing on the far side of the moon in January of this year.

So, due to these historic events we have an entire summer planned full of events and activities based on this theme. Registration for this year’s summer program opened last week and it’s online again, though of course you can come visit one of our locations to register you and any family members as well. We have programs for all ages, from birth to 100+ and registration is easy. You can follow the link on our website’s homepage to create an account or, if you registered last year, just sign in to your previous account and select the program you’d like to participate in.

For our new participants, I’ll give you some helpful tips to get started. To register one person only, you will want to select the “myself” option on the registration page; this is to create a single account. For example, if you are a parent who wants to register your child who is seven years old but do not want to register yourself for our adult program, you would click on the “myself” button and then fill out the information as if you are your child. If you want to register more than one person, then you would click on the register “myself and children” button.

Once you have your account set up, you are ready to go! Earning points for reading starts on May 24, and that’s when you can start recording how many minutes you’ve read. I know, the anticipation is killing us too. We are so excited to kick off summer that we planned a special parish-wide party on Saturday, June 1 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. It will be held at our Central Library and we’d love to see you there as we Blast Off into summer!
