Let Bossier Parish Library help you in 2019

By Annie Gilmer, Bossier Parish Library December 28, 2018

It’s the start of a new year now; we’ve made it through the holidays and have, or are soon to be, making New Year’s resolutions. If one of the resolutions you’re thinking about involves learning something new in 2019, then I’d like to suggest that you check out the Tutorials section on our website to help you get started.

For instance, if you happened to receive an eReader of some description during the holidays and you need a bit of guidance on how to go about downloading eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, and more then you are reading the correct column. Our Tutorials section includes video guides that give you step-by-step instructions on using OverDrive, Libby, Hoopla, and Flipster. And just in case all of those names are unfamiliar: OverDrive and Libby are great for eBooks and eAudiobooks; Hoopla is my favorite for music, movies, and TV shows (and I browse it for the eAudiobooks as well); while Flipster is our go-to resource for the eMagazines and the selection is nicely varied.

There are many other types of tutorials available in this section as well, including guides on getting started with Pinterest, Goodreads, Gmail, Instagram, and Cypress Resume. I didn’t even come close to listing them all, but I thought I’d leave it up to my readers to go check it out to see what’s on offer.

But, while all of this is great info – even if I do say so myself – you still need to know where to locate this wonderful resource! So, if you go to our website,, there are multiple ways to access this section. The first is simply by looking to the right-hand side of the homepage; here you will see a blue tab labeled “Tutorials”, it has an arrow on it and it follows you as you scroll down the page. If you click on this tab it will reveal a list of all the tutorials that are available. You can search for a specific guide, or you can simply scroll through the list to find what you’re looking for. The second way to access the tutorials is by clicking on the “Services” tab that is located along the top of the homepage along with other tabs such as “Home”, “Locations”, and “Classes & Events”. Once you’ve clicked on “Services” just scroll down to the last option, which is labeled “Tutorials”. If my explanation didn’t adequately explain, or got confusing part way through, don’t forget you can always call or stop into any of our locations to talk to our friendly staff. We do love to help!

I hope everyone has enjoyed a wonderful Holiday Season in 2018, and that 2019 has gotten off to a good start!
