If you’ve been following along and wondering whether Pelican Developmental School could be the right fit for your child, now is the time to let them know you’re interested!
They’re opening August 2027 and building a different kind of school experience for children who are capable of learning and growing, but may need a different path to get there.
At PDS, students will be known individually, taught at their level, and given the time and support they need to make meaningful progress—all in a faith-centered environment.
Their first year will serve children ages 4–6 working around the Kindergarten/1st grade level, with plans to grow with students each year.

Pelican Developmental School is a nonprofit, faith based private school in Shreveport, Louisiana, created specifically for children with developmental disabilities.
Their mission is simple. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” â€â€Ephesians‬ â€2‬:â€10
They believe every child was created with purpose. One that God has prepared for them.
Every child deserves to be known, loved, challenged, and taught in a way that meets them where they are.
Pelican Developmental School classrooms will focus on individualized learning, functional life skills, purposeful play, and building independence in a structured environment where children can grow at their own pace.
Meeting a child where they are doesn’t mean lowering expectations.Their students will still work toward academic standards and important learning goals, but how they learn those skills can look different.
A worksheet might become a matching activity. A pencil-and-paper lesson might become hands-on learning with manipulatives.
They can use movement, sensory activities, a child’s interests, or whatever helps that individual student learn best.
The goal stays the same. The path to get there can be different. That’s what individualized learning will look like at Pelican Developmental School.
This is not a traditional classroom, and it is not a daycare. Pelican Developmental School is a place designed specifically for children who learn differently.
